The rain and freeze sensor for sprinkler controllers is engineered to automatically detect rainfall or low temperature conditions and turn off a sprinkler controller until normal watering conditions return. It has water-absorbing disks which expand when wet, causing the controller to suspend watering. When the disks dry out and contract, the controller returns to the normal watering schedule. It is adjustable, allowing you to change the threshold for triggering a delay. It uses a thermistor to detect low temperatures and similarly suspends and restarts watering.

Typically, you will mount the sensor on an eave or other open-air area, and a weather-resistant wire runs up to 30 feet to the rain sensor port of the irrigation controller. The sensor is compatible with 24 VAC controllers from Orbit, Hydro-Rain, and other major irrigation brands.

The Rain and Freeze Sensor prevents your automatic sprinkler system from watering during a storm. The rain sensor is adjustable to accommodate rainfall from 1/8 inch to 1 inch. The freeze sensor reduces hazards and damage to your pipes from freezing water.

The sensor is designed for automatically detecting rainfall or low temperature conditions. The weather-resistant wire runs from the controller to an eave or other open area, allowing the sensor to accurately monitor the weather. When the water-absorbing disks expand due to wet conditions, the controller is caused to suspend watering. Conversely, when the disks dry out and contract, the controller returns to the normal watering schedule.

The adjustable feature of the sensor allows you to customize the threshold for triggering a rain delay, ensuring your system responds appropriately to the local weather conditions.
